Dear Parents and Carers,
It has been a very busy term and without realising it we find ourselves in the penultimate week of term, the leaves are falling and the nights are drawing in. Time flies when you’re having fun!
On Monday the 3rd of October, Reverend Dennison will be in to host out Harvest Assembly. Please do come along and join us at 9.15 that morning. After the assembly we invite you to join us in our classrooms and share in our learning until break time. We look forward to seeing you there.
The next Rag Bag collection is also on the 3rd of October. Bags can be dropped off at the school any time this week or on Monday morning. If you require more bags you can pick them up from the office.
Trips and Visitors
We have had such a busy term. The whole school went to Techfest in Aberdeen. P1-4 got to find out about animals and hold a range of exotic creatures, then they found out how to write secret messages. Meantime P5-7 were discovering different types of rocks and fossils before finding out how to create magic potions in a chemical wizardry workshop. We all then came together again for fireballs and explosions in a dragon workshop.
Animates visited P5-7 in the school to show them some of the different animals that you can find in the rainforest. The children got to hold a range of creatures from hissing cockroaches to a snake.
P1-4 visited Macduff Marine Aquarium last Wednesday to take part in Shark School and find out all about the animals that live in our seas, to support their learning about water.
The school then took a trip to Absafe in Aberdeen on Thursday. At Absafe pupils were able to explore different risks in a safe environment and acquire skills and knowledge that will help them should they ever find themselves in that situation in real life.
Mr Bill Moultrie from the Community Council has been sharing his computing experience with P5-7 on Fridays. He has been showing the pupils how to use programs such as Paint.net and Moviemaker so that we can create our own video of our school to send to Daintree, Australia where we have set up a link with a Primary School in a tropical rainforest.
This is the final week of Code Club, there will be no Code Club next week. Pupils taking part will have a questionnaire to take home to comment on their experiences. Hopefully our Code Club members have enjoyed their introduction to programming and will continue to create programs via Scratch.
Pupils will be taking home some of their work to share with you. Ask them questions about what they have learned. A comment sheet will be enclosed for you to sign to say you have seen them. We will continue to use these jotters so would be grateful if they could be returned promptly. Thank you.
Thank you to all the parents who turned up to our rescheduled AGM on Thursday. We were able to appoint new office bearers and I’m delighted to announce that Robert Bartlett was appointed as Chair, Charlene Gabriel as Treasurer and Pamela Bartlett as Secretary. Please find enclosed with the newsletter, a letter from the Parent Council detailing their upcoming fundraisers which will help to pay for the children’s trip to the Panto among other things. We do hope you will be able to show your support in some way.
At the Parent Council meeting we were able to take a look at the new way of reporting to parents. If you weren’t able to come along for that input on Thursday there will be another opportunity to have a look at the presentations on Thursday 27th October at 6pm.
Mrs Parkers’ Health Heroes are hosting a mini Paralympics for pupils on the last day of term. Please can all pupils bring their PE kit to take part. It looks like it will be a fun morning with blindfolded bowling, sitting volleyball and much more!
P5-7 have been getting Rugby training from Alan Elphinstone of Banff Rugby Club for the past few weeks. We wish them lots of luck as they take part in a festival with other Turriff schools next Tuesday, details to follow.
Parents meetings will be held on the 2nd and 3rd of November.
